ENDAROFTA SECONDARY SCHOOL

Current Focus Organization

Our new focus organization is Endarofta Secondary School, which was established in 1984 in the Karutu region of Tanzania. The school currently accommodates 400 boys and girls from all around Tanzania. In addition, they value teaching students to keep up with current events, offering a variety of academic clubs, promoting physical exercise, immersing students in the agricultural sector, and accepting students from a variety of religious backgrounds despite belonging to the Catholic Church.

We will be helping them out in two ways: raising funds to build a dining hall and holding a supplies drive for books, sports equipment, and school supplies. In June, we are hoping to launch a virtual tutoring program with students from the Endarofta Secondary School and high-school students from the DC area. We chose Endarofta Secondary School because we strongly value education, and in the wake of the pandemic, smaller schools in Tanzania have faced many challenges, particularly resource shortages. Additionally, we had been connected to the school for many years. They recently informed us that they needed help building a dining hall and providing students with enough books, computers, and sports equipment. We know that inadequate nutrition and a lack of access to educational tools can be severely detrimental to students’ success, so we hope to support Endarofta Secondary School in improving the education of its students.

About EmBracelet's

EmBracelet’s raises awareness for important social justice causes while raising money to support the cause at the same time. The way EmBracelet's works is when you purchase the bracelet of your choice, 75% of the proceeds will be donated to the focus organization - the organization EmBracelet's has chosen to support for a 3 month period. The other 25% of the proceeds are used for supplies and labor costs. Embracelet’s began as I realized that beaded bracelets were gaining popularity again and I thought about how easy it would be to make and sell them, then I realized that in light of the chaos occurring in the world, it would be impactful to donate the money to organizations focused around community empowerment.

 Past Focus Organizations

Girl Rising

We raised $1,700!

We chose Girl Rising as our third focus organization in order to raise awareness about an often ignored, yet pressing issue: the lack of l education for girls in under-resourced countries. According to UNESCO estimates, over 130 million girls around the world are out of school. Girl Rising is an organization that aims to change the way the world values girls and advance girls’ right to quality education. The organization produces original content, launches educational programs, and builds movements in order to create change so that girls are free to go to school, complete their education, and pursue futures of their choosing. We donated specifically to Girl Rising’s program in Guatemala, which works with community leaders to diminish gender-based violence. In Guatemala, girls receive an average of 4.1 years of schooling while boys receive an average of 5.9 years of schooling, highlighting the disparities in education by gender. So far, Girl Rising has worked with over 900 families through local organizations to explore how rigid gender norms can be harmful.

Fair Fight

We raised $1,110

Our second focus organization was Fair Fight, a Georgia-based organization that aims to end the disenfranchisement of US citizens. Fair Fight mobilizes voters by promoting fair voting around the country, educating voters about their rights, encouraging voter participation, and helping voters make informed decisions. The organization was founded in 2014 by the accomplished politician Stacey Abrams after she witnessed firsthand the mismanagement of the 2018 Georgia election by the Secretary of State's Office. Through Fair Fight, Abrams seeks to ensure that every American has a voice in the election process. We chose to support Fair Fight's efforts to mobilize voters and ensure fair voting processes before the Senate run-off elections in Georgia, which took place on January 5, 2021. Ultimately, a total of five million people voted, which was the most in the state's history!

Campaign Zero

We raised $1,000!

Campaign Zero was our first focus organization and they aim to end police brutality in the US.  They plan to achieve this through ten clear policy proposals that will ultimately limit police intervention, improve community interaction, and ensure accountability. The funds we raised supported the analysis of countrywide policing practices, organizers leading similar campaigns, the development of model legislation, and practices that will end police violence, and the research of effective solutions.
